Unlocking Fertility with Personalized Nutritional Therapy

Infertility is not simply just a hormonal imbalance. Fertility, normal menstrual cycles, the ability to maintain a healthy pregnancy, optimal male and female health are all dependent on a complex integration of numerous pathways, involving blood sugar stability, thyroid function, adrenal gland function, gut function, microbiome health, detoxification, as well as environmental factors, that ensure successful conception and a full-term, healthy pregnancy.

In clinic, I always look at all aspects of imbalances, not just hormonal imbalance. One piece of the puzzle is your mitochondrial health, which is a very crucial part when considering infertility.

Forming a new set of ovarian eggs within a normal folliculogenesis (which is the process of recruiting a cohort of eggs that then become big enough to ovulate and then to fertilize) takes roughly 120 days. That is our window of opportunity that has the greatest impact to shape the health of those eggs to create higher chances of conception.

Additionally, within the first days of embryo development, cellular energy produced by maternal mitochondria will help shape and power that embryo.

Spermatogenesis, the origin and development of the sperm cells within the male reproductive organs takes around 100 days and is heavily affected by modifiable lifestyle factors, including nutrition. The healthier the sperm, the higher chances the process will work effectively.

There are so many aspects to consider and so many things to worry about. To go through infertility and be confused by what to do is stressful… Stress harms both female and male fertility significantly, and so does coping with infertility and going through fertility treatments alone.

Nutritional therapy may be the missing link in your and your partner’s journey. Personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan along with a personalised supplementation plan may be able to increase the quality of your egg and sperm health and to achieve an optimal hormonal balance to increase your chances of getting pregnant and going through a healthy pregnancy. Various studies show that nutritional and lifestyle strategies result in better fertility treatment outcomes (which could mean higher quality eggs or higher number of eggs retrieved, healthier, higher quality sperm), increased chances of conceiving and lower risks of miscarriage.

In my clinical practice, I use a variety of tools and methods to assess and identify potential imbalances and see how these may contribute to your and your partner’s fertility concerns. When it is deemed necessary, I use various functional laboratory tests. These tools enable me to personalise my therapy approach for you and for your partner to successfully conceive and carry your baby to full term.

My 3-month-long fertility and preconception planning programmes for couples facing infertility are specifically created for you and your partner, to provide the greatest opportunity to shape the health of your eggs and sperm. Let me support you through your struggles and create a calm environment by working with you as your Fuctional Fertility Nutritional Therapist.
